Magnesium

What it’s good for
Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is important to a multitude of biochemical reactions in the human body. This mineral helps the body to maintain a healthy immune system, regulate blood sugar levels, promote normal blood pressure, maintain muscle and nerve function. Recently, research has found that magnesium can prevent and manage disorders like diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.

Where to find it
Spinach, legumes, fish, nuts, seed, whole grains, yogurt, avocado, raisins.

How to take it
Recommended dosage for adults: 270–400 mg (men); 280–300 mg (women)

Safety
Exercise caution if you are being treated for heart disease and kidney problems as magnesium supplements may make these conditions worse. It is usually not recommended to take magnesium if you are on these prescriptive drugs: Digoxin, Levomethadyl, Licorice, Mycophenolate Mofetil, Mycophenolic Acid.
